During the diamond jubilee celebrations of Kabale Diocese, President Museveni urged religious leaders to actively preach the tenets of diligence and togetherness.
The call came as thousands of faithful gathered at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral to mark 60 years of the diocese’s service, a celebration that also included the ordination of thirteen priests and ten deacons.
Represented by the Minister of Health, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, President Museveni lauded the Catholic Church as a vital partner to the NRM government, particularly in driving economic transformation across the nation. “The NRM leadership recognises the Church as a key partner in nation building and encourages all Church leaders in all denominations to preach the gospel of no more sleep and unity in all our endeavours,” Museveni stated.
The government, he added, is committed to regional integration to broaden economic opportunities for Ugandans. The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Henry Musasizi, highlighted government initiatives like the Parish Development Model aimed at boosting household incomes and confirmed efforts to secure funding for crucial tourism road infrastructure in the Kigezi sub-region.
Meanwhile, the Apostolic Administrator of Kabale Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, advised the newly ordained clergy to remain steadfast and close to God amidst the challenges of their pastoral duties, stressing that divine closeness yields greater spiritual fruit.
Kabale Diocese was founded in 1966 and its 60th anniversary marks six decades of Catholic presence and ministry in the area.
