Patience Rwabwogo Consecrated as First Female Bishop in Uganda

In a significant event for Uganda’s Christian community, Pastor Patience Kokundeka Museveni Rwabwogo was consecrated as an Episcopal Bishop of the Covenant Nations Church. The ceremony, which took place at Covenant Hill in Maya, was led by Chief Consecrator Bishop Dr. LaDonna Osborn and co-consecrators Archbishop Moses Odongo and Bishop Joshua Lwere.

This consecration is a landmark occasion, as Bishop Patience becomes the first woman to be ordained as a bishop in Uganda. The event celebrated twenty years of the Covenant Nations Church, which began as a humble house fellowship founded by Pastor Rwabwogo.

Distinguished guests, including global leaders of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye and his wife Pastor Folu Adeboye, attended the ceremony. Pastor Adeboye participated directly in the consecration, leading anointing prayers.

Mrs. Allen Kagina, representing the elders of Covenant Nations Church, highlighted Bishop Patience’s journey, emphasizing her two decades of dedicated ministry, service, and leadership. She noted that the growth of the fellowship into Covenant Nations Church is a testament to prayer, obedience, and perseverance.

Bishop Patience’s ministry has reportedly extended beyond spiritual teaching to include leadership development, professional excellence, and economic empowerment, with a particular focus on young people and students. Her efforts to promote unity among Christian denominations were also recognized.

President Yoweri Museveni congratulated his daughter, noting the historical significance of her ordination within Uganda’s religious landscape. He reflected on his family’s own journey with faith, contrasting it with the present day where a bishop is ordained within his lineage.

First Lady Maama Janet Museveni expressed profound joy and thanksgiving for her daughter’s consecration and gave thanks for God’s faithfulness to Uganda and her own recovery. Bishop Dr. Osborn called for a Church that actively transforms society, urging Bishop Patience to embrace her new responsibilities.

Mr. Odrek Rwabwogo, husband of the newly consecrated bishop, traced her calling to years of quiet service and linked her ordination to Uganda’s broader Christian revival. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of episcopal symbols, signifying the weight and scope of her new office.

The consecration represents not only a personal milestone for Bishop Patience but also a call to greater responsibility and service within the Church and the nation.
