First Lady Janet Museveni recently shared a deeply personal and emotional testimony of healing and gratitude during the 20th-anniversary celebration of the Covenant Nations Church. The 78-year-old revealed that the year 2026 marked a period when she was “delivered from the very jaws of death” by divine intervention, attributing her survival to fervent prayers.
“You lifted the standard against him [the enemy] when he came in like a flood,” Ms. Museveni declared, thanking Jesus as the “Healer and the Great Physician.” She expressed profound appreciation to intercessors and church leaders across Uganda who prayed tirelessly for her recovery when she was unable to pray for herself.
Her personal experience of overcoming illness was interwoven with reflections on Uganda’s journey. Ms. Museveni lauded President Yoweri Museveni’s 40-year leadership for bringing peace, economic recovery, and spiritual growth to the nation, contrasting it with periods of past conflict and ruin.
The significant occasion also celebrated the consecration of her daughter, Pastor Patience Kokundeka Museveni Rwabwogo, as an Episcopal Bishop. This historic ordination makes Bishop Rwabwogo the first woman to hold this office in Uganda. Ms. Museveni described her daughter’s calling as a “profound spiritual validation” for their family and a testament to God’s acceptance of their service.
President Museveni, present at the event, also conveyed his gratitude for his wife’s recovery and acknowledged the care provided by their children and medical staff. He noted the historical significance of having a bishop in his family, tracing his own family’s religious journey back to his father joining the church in 1947.
The consecration ceremony was attended by prominent international clergy, including Bishop Dr. LaDonna Osborn, Archbishop Moses Odongo, Bishop Joshua Lwere, and Pastors Enoch Adejare Adeboye and Folu Adeboye. The event was graced by high-profile government officials, underscoring its importance as both a spiritual milestone and a national gathering.
