Lwakataka Eyes Rally Return with Shs25m Boost from Ruparelia Group

Two-time National Rally Champion Ponsiano Lwakataka is gearing up for a return to the competitive motorsport scene with a substantial boost from the Ruparelia Group of Companies. The conglomerate has donated Shs25 million towards Lwakataka’s ambitious project to acquire a Volkswagen Proto rally car.

This contribution brings Lwakataka closer to his target of Shs220 million needed to purchase the car, which was previously driven by the late rally driver Rajiv Ruparelia. The veteran driver still needs to raise Shs195 million to finalize the acquisition.

To bridge this financial gap and celebrate his 25-year career in motorsport, Lwakataka is organizing a fundraising sprint. The event is scheduled for September 20 at the Garuga Race Track and will serve as the official unveiling of his new machine to the public.

Fans attending the Garuga event will also have the opportunity to purchase a commemorative magazine detailing Lwakataka’s racing journey for Shs10,000. Lwakataka expressed his gratitude for the Ruparelia Group’s support and urged motorsport enthusiasts to attend the unveiling.

“I am really happy and I want to assure our fans that the day of the unveiling of the rally car will be special. I call upon all rally fans to come to Garuga and see our car,” Lwakataka stated.

Lwakataka is optimistic that the new Volkswagen Proto, nicknamed “Rabbit,” will offer a significant competitive advantage over his previous car, “Snake.” He believes the “Rabbit” will handle better and allow him to once again contend for top positions in the National Rally Championship (NRC) circuit.
