Police Seek Roommate in Bukoto Waitress Murder Investigation

Police in Kampala are investigating the tragic death of Jovia Namuwulya, a 22-year-old waitress discovered deceased in her rented room in Mukalazi Zone, Bukoto I Parish.

The discovery was made on August 20, 2026, after relatives, concerned by Namuwulya’s unresponsiveness to calls, contacted the caretaker of her residence. Upon arrival, the caretaker and the deceased’s sister found the room locked. Peering through the window, they observed bloodstains, prompting them to gain entry and find Namuwulya lying in a pool of blood.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, SP Racheal Kawala, the murder is suspected to have occurred between midnight and 6:00 AM on the day of discovery. Investigations revealed that Namuwulya had been living in the room for seven months and had been joined by a cohabitant, Rose Turindamukama, approximately three months ago.

When Namuwulya’s body was found, Turindamukama was nowhere to be seen, and her disappearance has raised significant suspicion among investigators. “Her friend, Rose Turindamukama, was nowhere to be found and is currently being sought in connection with the incident,” stated SP Kawala.

The motive behind the killing remains unclear. Namuwulya’s body has been taken to the City Mortuary, Mulago, for a post-mortem examination. Police are appealing to the public for any information regarding Turindamukama’s whereabouts to assist with the ongoing investigation.

This incident occurs amidst a concerning trend of homicides across Uganda. The Police Annual Crime Report for 2025 indicated 4,238 homicide cases, a slight reduction from the previous year.
