Buganda's Katikkiro Urges Clans to Leverage Technology for Growth

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has issued a strong call to action for all Buganda clans, urging their members to actively participate in the development of their respective lineages. Mayiga stressed that this engagement is crucial for the continued progress and restoration of Buganda to its former prominence.

His remarks were made during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Omutima Clan’s new headquarters, located in Mutundwe, Kyaddondo. The initiative has already garnered significant financial support, with over Shs110 million raised to date. This figure is in addition to Shs126 million previously collected at a fundraising dinner.

“Clans in the era of the Kabaka Mutebi must embrace technology,” Mayiga declared. He clarified that modernization does not necessitate abandoning cultural traditions but rather adapting them for contemporary relevance. He further proposed that each clan should establish a clear development plan to guide its future endeavors.

The Katikkiro expressed his gratitude to Kabaka’s ministers and other supporters for their backing of the Omutima Clan’s project. He also acknowledged the trust placed in him by the clan head and its members.

Despite the progress, Mayiga highlighted the ongoing need to mobilize further resources to ensure the project’s completion, which is anticipated by August 2027. The Omutima Clan’s leadership, represented by clan head Omutaka Namugera Kakeeto Dr. Nicholas Kasekende, thanked contributors and pledged transparency in fund management through treasurer Hajji Saddala Musoke.

The clan still aims to raise over Shs1 billion to finalize the headquarters, which is intended to serve as a central hub for all clan activities. This ambitious project underscores the kingdom’s focus on blending tradition with innovation for future prosperity.
