Electoral Commission Orders Rerun Elections in Several Ugandan Villages

The Electoral Commission (EC) has ordered fresh elections for administrative units in several villages within Wakiso, Kampala, and Iganga districts. This decision comes as the commission was unable to ascertain, declare, and publish the official results for these villages in accordance with legal requirements.
The affected villages include Abayita Ababiri, Bulamu Deputy Zone, Kasero Kirimamboga Tomi, Kireka ‘D’ Village, Kabuuma Cell, and Buwambo Cell in Wakiso District. Additionally, Busei ‘B’ Village in Iganga District and Kasaato Zone in Kampala District will also hold rerun elections.
The EC stated, “the Commission, under MIN/COM/012/2026, hereby informs you that a repeat of this election will be conducted on a date to be communicated in due course.” This directive stems from the constitutional mandate of the EC to ascertain election results, a process that proved impossible for the listed villages.
Nationwide Local Council (LC) One polls were conducted on July 28th, with the EC initially announcing a rerun for 1,135 villages due to various unforeseen issues. These included disruptions, violence, destruction of materials, tied results, voter register disputes, and the death of candidates. The commission is also currently reviewing over 500 petitions related to the elections, with some already resolved and others still under deliberation.
