Ugandan musician Fik Gaza has pointed a finger at the growing politicization of the entertainment sector as a major reason behind the declining turnout at music concerts.
Speaking on a local radio platform, Fik Gaza stated that the pressure on artists to align with specific political parties is negatively impacting their careers and, consequently, the concert culture.
He emphasized that musicians rely on a broad fan base, which often includes individuals from across the political spectrum. Taking a definitive political stance, he warned, could alienate a significant portion of their supporters.
“As a ghetto youth, I cannot pick sides. I need both NRM and NUP,” Fik Gaza declared, highlighting his reliance on support from supporters of both major political parties. He believes that maintaining neutrality is crucial for sustained career success, especially given his music’s widespread appeal.
When pressed about his personal political leanings, the artist declined to comment, reiterating his concern that such a declaration would inevitably cause divisions within his fanbase. He has chosen to keep his personal political views private to safeguard his artistic reach.
