Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba reignites feud with brother-in-law, warns media

Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has resurfaced on X after nearly a month’s absence, launching a fresh series of online attacks. His latest targets include his brother-in-law, Odrek Rwabwogo, and the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID) that Rwabwogo chairs.

In a series of posts on Tuesday, Gen. Kainerugaba declared PACEID an “illegal organisation,” vowing to arrest all members involved in corruption. He claimed one arrest had already been made, though details remain scarce.

Furthermore, Gen. Kainerugaba issued a stern warning to radio and television stations, cautioning them against providing airtime to PACEID officials, threatening “severe consequences.” This echoes past actions where Nation Media Group offices were shut down for over a month following similar media threats.

The public confrontation reignites a long-standing feud between Gen. Kainerugaba and Rwabwogo, who is married to President Museveni’s daughter, Patience Rwabwogo. The two have publicly traded accusations of corruption, governance issues, and political influence within the ruling NRM party.

This latest escalation comes shortly after Patience Rwabwogo’s consecration as a bishop, an event Gen. Kainerugaba reportedly did not attend, fueling speculation about the strained family relations. The conflict highlights a growing rift within President Museveni’s inner circle, with implications for the country’s political and economic landscape.
