Buganda Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga recently commended Abu Mwesigwa, President Yoweri Museveni’s official photographer, for his significant contribution to documenting Uganda’s history through his craft. Mayiga emphasized that Mwesigwa’s efforts, particularly the compilation of his work into a book, provide an invaluable historical record for both current and future generations.
During a visit from Mwesigwa, accompanied by Nelson Bwire, the State House online editor, Mayiga highlighted the importance of professionals not only excelling in their duties but also ensuring their work is preserved. He stated, “It is not enough that we work to the best of our ability, but it is also important that we keep records of what we do. When you have a permanent record of your work, you have set a precedent for future generations.”
Mayiga sees Mwesigwa’s book as a testament to how professional excellence can establish a lasting legacy, enabling others to learn from past experiences. He drew parallels to the Buganda Kingdom’s ‘Situla Omutindo’ (strive for excellence) theme, encouraging hard work, smart work, and intentionality in all endeavors, whether in farming, business, or public service.
The Katikkiro views work not merely as a means to an end but as an opportunity to make a lasting societal impact and positively influence those around us, including colleagues, superiors, and subordinates. He expressed his delight that Mwesigwa’s photographic achievements are now in a permanent form, serving as a reference point.
Mwesigwa, in turn, shared that his role as a presidential photographer has placed him at the forefront of documenting key national events and presidential engagements, inspiring him to create the book to safeguard these moments for posterity.
