Kawempe Muslim, the Ugandan champions, are set to face UJECO of Djibouti in their concluding Group B match at Kigali Pelé Stadium. Coach Ayub Khalifah has emphasized the need for his team to convert their scoring opportunities more effectively.
Despite a 1-0 victory over Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) on Sunday, thanks to Agnes Nabukenya’s early penalty, Khalifah felt his team squandered numerous chances. He believes the scoreline should have been more substantial, highlighting a need to refine their strikers’ finishing.
“We need to go back on the drawing board and see how we can sharpen our strikers so that at least they score more,” Khalifah stated.
With a guaranteed place in the semifinals as group leaders, Kawempe Muslim is focused on securing a win with a significant goal margin. This approach aims to build confidence and offensive rhythm as they await their semifinal opponent.
“We are looking at a game that we still need to win, win with goals,” Khalifah added, emphasizing the importance of goal-scoring prowess for their upcoming fixtures.
The match against UJECO presents an opportunity for new signings like Cecilia Apiding and Anitah Namata to integrate and start contributing goals, potentially alongside established players such as Latifah Nakasi and Jovia Nakagolo.
Furthermore, the game could serve as a platform to assess the fitness of key players, including captain Shakirah Nyinagahirwa and midfielder Dorcus Kisakye, in a less pressurized yet still competitive environment. This match is crucial for their aspirations to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League.
