Luweero Police Search for Man in Step-son's Death Over Shs500
Police in Luweero District are actively searching for a man suspected of fatally beating his 11-year-old stepson. The assault allegedly occurred over a small sum of money, leading to the boy's death. Authorities in Luweero are on the hunt for Nicholas Sekyazi, accused of beating his 11-year-old stepson, Jeremiah Mayiga, to death. The tragic incident reportedly took place on August 18th in Kabukunga Village, Kamira Sub-county.
According to initial reports, Sekyazi allegedly accused Jeremiah of stealing Shs500, which the boy allegedly used to buy a chapati. The stepfather is said to have assaulted Jeremiah with a stick until he lost consciousness. The boy was reportedly being rushed for medical attention when he passed away.
Jeremiah’s mother, Joan Nalugo, had reportedly left her children in Sekyazi’s care for about two weeks while she attended to a sick relative. Following the assault, the suspect is alleged to have claimed that Jeremiah fell from a mango tree.
Police were alerted to the incident and visited the scene. They recovered a stick believed to have been used in the assault. A postmortem examination conducted at Mulago Hospital confirmed that Jeremiah died from a traumatic brain injury caused by blunt-force trauma.
Police spokesperson Sam Twineamazima confirmed that witness statements have been recorded and a manhunt for Sekyazi is underway. He assured the public that the suspect will be arrested and prosecuted once apprehended. Investigations into the case, registered under SD Ref. 11/18/08/2026 at Kamira Police Station, are ongoing.
