President Yoweri Museveni has reportedly directed the end of house arrest for former Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among. The directive, confirmed by Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba via his X account, signifies a potential easing of restrictions that have confined Among to her Nakasero residence for several months.
Gen. Kainerugaba stated, “Mzee has also instructed me to release AAA from house arrest. We shall do that as well.” This announcement comes after a period of intense scrutiny and investigation into the management of Parliament. While Among retains her position as the Bukedea Woman MP, her movement has been significantly curtailed since May 2026, with security personnel visible around her home.
The investigations prompted searches of properties associated with Among across various locations, including Nakasero, Kigo, Ntinda, and Bukedea District. During these operations, security forces reportedly confiscated several high-value assets, such as a Rolls-Royce Cullinan valued at approximately Shs3.4 billion, a custom Range Rover, multiple Mercedes-Benz vehicles, a Lexus, and several Land Cruisers. Documents, cash, and land titles were also allegedly seized.
This latest directive from President Museveni could allow Anita Among to leave her residence freely as the investigations continue. The situation has placed the former Speaker’s political career under a microscope since the security operations commenced, and this development marks a notable shift in the ongoing saga.
