The upcoming Rotary Cancer Run for 2026 has set its sights on a significant goal: to establish and fully equip a state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya. This ambitious project aims to tackle the prevalent challenge of accessing advanced cancer treatment within Uganda.
The planned center will feature advanced radiotherapy equipment, including two linear accelerator (LINAC) machines. Alongside this, comprehensive diagnostic tools and specialized care units are slated for installation to enhance the scope and quality of cancer services offered.
Ahead of the main event scheduled for Sunday, August 30th, at Kololo Independence Grounds, the fundraising efforts have already seen a substantial contribution. Jetour Uganda recently boosted the campaign with Shs5 million.
Meddie Lutaaya, Chairman of the Rotary Cancer Run 2026, expressed gratitude for the support, emphasizing that it directly contributes to the construction and outfitting of the vital cancer center. “Your support reinforces our shared mission of building and equipping a modern cancer center at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya,” he stated.
Jetour Uganda’s commitment extends beyond financial aid. Anthony Muthike, General Manager of Al Mamoun East Africa Co. Ltd, the distributor of Jetour vehicles, highlighted the company’s dedication to raising cancer awareness, particularly the crucial role of early detection. “When cancer is caught early, survival rates skyrocket and that is the outcome we are all fighting for,” Muthike commented.
In a further demonstration of support, Jetour Uganda has also provided over 60 running kits, which will be distributed to participants free of charge. These can be collected from their showroom located in Namanve.
The Rotary Cancer Run is anticipated to draw a large crowd, uniting participants in a collective effort to raise funds for the Nsambya project while simultaneously promoting essential messages about early cancer detection and awareness.
