During a plenary session on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the Speaker issued a stern warning against anyone issuing threats, whether explicit or subtle, to these officials as they perform their duties.

Oboth emphasized that committee leaders operate under a constitutional mandate to process parliamentary business on behalf of the House and the public. He stated unequivocally that he would not shield individuals seeking to avoid accountability or interfere with the legislature’s oversight responsibilities. This stance underscores a commitment to transparency and robust legislative processes.

This recent caution follows a similar directive from the Speaker on August 19, 2026, where he urged accounting officers to comply with committee summons. Oboth reminded these officials of their constitutional obligation to be accountable to citizens through Parliament.

Furthermore, Speaker Oboth has called upon all committees to expedite the processing of pending business before the upcoming three-week recess, scheduled from September 3 to 29, 2026. He also encouraged the Leader of Government Business to ensure that all planned Bills are introduced early to facilitate timely consideration by the House.
