Anita Among Expresses Gratitude After President Museveni Drops Charges

Following President Yoweri Museveni’s directive to lift restrictions and drop charges, former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has publicly expressed her profound gratitude.
Ms. Among took to her X platform (formerly Twitter) on August 26, 2026, to thank God for her freedom and to extend heartfelt appreciation to the nation’s leadership. “My profound and heartfelt appreciation goes to His Excellency, President Yoweri Museveni, for his unmatched parental grace and decision to grant me mercy,” she posted.
She also acknowledged the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for his professional conduct during the period. “As the Woman MP for Bukedea, I look forward to continuing my work for my constituents and standing firm with our revolutionary leadership,” Ms. Among stated.
Her release comes after Gen. Muhoozi announced the previous day that his father had ordered the military to end Ms. Among’s house arrest and forgo prosecution, citing a presidential decision to forgive her past mistakes.
This pardon marks a significant turn of events after over 100 days of restricted movement for the former Speaker. Ms. Among had been under house arrest at her Kampala residence since mid-May 2026, amid a wide-ranging corruption investigation initiated by the President. Allegations included corruption, abuse of office, and illicit enrichment.
While Ms. Among’s legal matters have concluded, investigations continue for several parliamentary staff and associates apprehended during the broader probe. They remain on trial for alleged financial losses and money laundering offenses. Security forces have since withdrawn from her residence, allowing her to resume her duties as the Woman MP for Bukedea.
