Kamuli Transport Association Elects New Leadership, Focuses on Safety and Professionalism

Drivers and conductors in Kamuli District have established a new leadership structure and adopted a new constitution, aiming to elevate professionalism within the transport sector and significantly improve passenger safety.

The association, now operating under the name Kamuli-Jinja-Kampala Drivers and Conductors Association, convened to ratify its constitution and elect its new executive committee, headed by chairman Saadi Alibawa.

Key initiatives for the new leadership include implementing refresher training for drivers in modern and defensive driving techniques, aiming to reduce road accidents. The association also plans to foster financial literacy and encourage saving habits among its members, promoting personal development and a more stable financial future.

“We are bringing in transformative, inclusive, developmental and leadership based on laws, regulations and policies with a stake as transport business which requires financial discipline, customer relations and updating ourselves with current trends but above all embrace and promote government programmes,” stated Alibawa.

Local security officials lauded the drivers’ initiative to organize, emphasizing the crucial role transport operators play in community security. They urged the association to maintain meticulous records of its members and guard against criminal infiltration.

Discussions also touched upon leveraging government programs like the Parish Development Model and Emyooga to support members’ economic growth. The association is committed to working with authorities to enhance member welfare and promote safer, more professional transport services across the region.
