Kenya Moves to Extradite Chinese National Over Shs4.5 Billion Fraud Allegations in Uganda

Kenyan authorities are set to extradite a Chinese national, Chen Guang, to Uganda to face charges related to a significant financial scam. Guang, also known as Alex, is accused by Ugandan authorities of orchestrating a fraud amounting to Shs4.5 billion while working as a cashier at Diamond Steel Uganda Limited.
According to the Ugandan DPP, Guang allegedly exploited his position to manipulate company financial records and payment systems. He faces 30 counts of forgery and one count of theft. The extradition process was formally initiated after Uganda submitted a request through the Office of the Attorney General, accompanied by an arrest warrant issued by the Mukono Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Following the request, Kenyan security agencies launched a search for Guang, who was apprehended on August 11, 2026, at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. He was arriving on a flight from Harare, Zimbabwe, at the time of his arrest.
During a court appearance in Kenya, prosecutors emphasized the severity of the charges and argued against bail, citing Guang’s potential flight risk due to his international travel history. The prosecution is seeking his immediate surrender to Uganda to stand trial. The court is expected to make a ruling on the extradition application soon.
