Newly sworn-in village chairpersons in Mityana District have officially pledged to combat corruption, land grabbing, and other pressing issues affecting their constituents. The commitment was made during a formal swearing-in ceremony held at the Busimbi Sub-county headquarters, where the leaders took their oaths, promising to serve with integrity and accountability.
Representing 49 villages across five parishes in Busimbi Sub-county, these new leaders emphasized their dedication to safeguarding residents’ rights. Land grabbing and corruption were specifically highlighted as major concerns that the chairpersons aim to address head-on.
“We are committed to protecting the interests of our people and ensuring that corruption and land grabbing do not undermine the development of our communities,” stated Sulaiman Kinobe, chairperson of Kansuleeti Village, reflecting the collective resolve.
Beyond tackling illicit activities, the chairpersons also committed to fostering educational development. They plan to encourage parents to prioritize their children’s schooling, ensuring enrollment and sustained attendance to create better future opportunities.
The ceremony was graced by Mityana District chairperson Joseph Luzige and Busimbi Division Mayor Hajji Haruna Kibirige Nziiza. Luzige urged the leaders to remain steadfast in their duties, reminding them of the trust placed in them by the community and the importance of diligent, non-discriminatory service.
Mayor Nziiza encouraged the chairpersons to invigorate ‘bulungi bwansi’—community self-help initiatives—mobilizing residents for collective action in improving sanitation, infrastructure, and overall community welfare.
The newly installed leaders expressed readiness to collaborate with district and division authorities to translate their pledges into tangible improvements for the residents of Mityana. This marks the beginning of a new term focused on grassroots accountability and development.
