Police Rescue Baby Allegedly Abducted by Deceptive Traveller in Namutumba

Police in Namutumba District have successfully located and recovered a three-week-old baby girl, Sherina Namulwa, who went missing from her home in Namulu Village, Kizuba Sub-county on August 21.

Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha confirmed the baby’s safe recovery on Tuesday, stating that she is in good health. The successful retrieval is attributed to coordinated intelligence efforts and the crucial support of the local community.

Investigators revealed that the baby was allegedly taken by Janet Musenero, a woman who had sought and was granted temporary lodging by a resident, Suzan Mirembe, in Namulu Village on August 20. Musenero reportedly left the following day with the infant, disappearing to an unknown destination.

A child theft case was subsequently filed at Namutumba Police Station, initiating a thorough search. Police, with the assistance of community members and local leaders, tracked the suspect to a hideout in Kisiro Village, Bugobi Sub-county, where the baby was found on August 24.

The baby has since been reunited with her relieved mother and family. The police are currently finalizing the case file for submission to the Resident State Attorney for further legal proceedings. Authorities are also urging the public to exercise caution, particularly parents and guardians, to be vigilant about unfamiliar individuals offering unusual requests, especially in households with young children.
