Raheem Sterling Faces Dangerous Driving Charges After M3 Crash

Footballer Raheem Sterling is set to face legal proceedings next month concerning a car crash that occurred in May. The incident involved Sterling’s Lamborghini colliding with barriers on the M3 motorway in Hampshire.

Sterling, 31, was arrested at the scene. He has since been charged with dangerous driving, possessing nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, and failing to provide a specimen. The collision, which happened on May 28, 2026, involved only Sterling’s vehicle and resulted in no reported injuries.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed the charges, stating Sterling will appear at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on September 15. Police had initially suspected the player of driving whilst unfit through drugs, but this charge has not been included in the formal accusations.

A source close to Sterling previously told BBC Sport that there was no evidence of drugs in his system and highlighted the player’s recent difficult period, suggesting he felt “worthless” and “forgotten about.”

Sterling is currently without a club, having departed Dutch side Feyenoord at the end of the last season. He had joined Feyenoord on a short-term deal in February after leaving Chelsea by mutual agreement. Sterling’s career includes a high-profile transfer from Manchester City to Chelsea in 2022, and he has earned 82 caps for England.
