Statistician Denies Forging OPM Job Letters, Charged with Shs3.8M Fraud

Nicholas Male, a 22-year-old statistician, stands accused of significant fraud involving forged employment documents from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM). Appearing before Grade One Magistrate Alex Niyonzima at the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court, Male pleaded not guilty to five charges. These charges include forgery, uttering false documents, and obtaining money through deceit.
The prosecution alleges that Male created and presented fake appointment letters for lucrative positions within the OPM. Specifically, he is accused of forging an appointment letter for a Senior Registration Officer role on June 5, 2025, and another for a Community Development Officer on July 16, 2025. The state contends that these documents falsely bore the signature of a purported OPM official.
Beyond document forgery, Male is also charged with defrauding Ms. Melanie Kutegeka of Shs3.802 million. This alleged fraud occurred between September 2024 and August 2025, with Male promising Ms. Kutegeka employment at the OPM. He is said to have accepted the substantial sum based on this false promise.
State Attorney Jane Francis Itae informed the court that the investigation is complete and requested a trial date. Magistrate Niyonzima has remanded Male until September 4, 2025, when his trial is expected to begin.
