Fufa and Finance Trust Bank Announce Symposium to Elevate Women's Football

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) in partnership with Finance Trust Bank (FTB) has announced the staging of the annual Women Football Symposium. Scheduled for September 9, the symposium will precede the commencement of the 2026/27 FTB Fufa Women Super League (FWSL), which kicks off three days later.
This significant one-day gathering is set to convene key figures from government, the corporate sector, media representatives, Fufa officials, and women’s football clubs. The primary objective is to engage in constructive discussions focused on the continued development and advancement of women’s football within the nation.
During the launch event at FTB’s head offices, Fufa’s second vice president, Azah Taibu, highlighted the substantial progress women’s football has made in Uganda over recent years. He emphasized the need to acknowledge and celebrate these achievements, noting the strengthened Super and Elite Leagues, the expansion to regional leagues, and the improved performance of national women’s teams on continental stages. Taibu expressed gratitude to FTB for their support over the past two seasons while underscoring that further efforts are required, making the symposium a crucial platform.
Taibu further stated that the symposium will serve as a vital precursor to the new season, aiming to build enthusiasm and recognize excellence. He also framed it as a call to action, encouraging more partners to invest in and support women’s football, recognizing its broader impact on families and the economy.
Finance Trust Bank, the title sponsor for both the FWSL and FWEL, has committed Shs100 million towards the event. This funding will support the recognition of outstanding performers and achievements from the previous season, with Fufa planning to utilize statistical data to honor top players. Percy Lubega, FTB’s head of marketing and corporate affairs, affirmed the bank’s commitment to women’s empowerment through football, emphasizing that the symposium is an extension of their league sponsorship. He stressed the importance of acknowledging the contributions of everyone involved, from coaches and players to referees and club administrators, who are instrumental in the sport’s progress. Lubega also extended thanks to FTB’s customers, whose business enables such impactful initiatives.
