Hima Cement Mourns Demise of King Oyo of Tooro

Hima Cement has joined the nation in mourning the untimely death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of Tooro Kingdom. The monarch passed away in the United States on Thursday at the age of 34.

In a statement released on Friday, Hima Cement conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the Tooro Royal Family and the people of the kingdom, describing the king’s passing as a profound national loss. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV,” the company stated, adding, “Hima Cement extends its sincere condolences to the Tooro Royal Family and the people of Tooro, as we join the nation in mourning his passing. Rest in peace, Your Majesty.”

Hima Cement holds significant ties to western Uganda, the region where its primary plant is located in Hima, Kasese district. As a major industrial employer in the area, the company has consistently supported community development initiatives throughout western Uganda.

The passing of King Oyo, who ascended to the throne at the tender age of three following his father’s death, marks the end of a reign of nearly three decades. Throughout his time as king, Oyo championed critical areas such as education, healthcare, environmental conservation, tourism, cultural preservation, and youth empowerment.

Messages of condolence have been pouring in from various leaders, including the Kyabazinga of Busoga and the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, underscoring the widespread impact of King Oyo’s leadership. Tooro Kingdom is expected to announce the details regarding the repatriation of the King’s remains and the subsequent mourning and burial arrangements.
