Kiboga Murder Trial: Suspect Collapses in Court, Four Face 11 Charges

Court proceedings in Kiboga High Court were dramatically interrupted on Thursday when a key suspect in a murder trial collapsed in the dock. Prison Warder Moses Anguyo fell ill around midday during a plea-taking session.

Presiding judge Jane Okuo Kajuga swiftly halted the court proceedings, summoning a medical team from the Uganda Prisons Service to attend to Anguyo. The session was later resumed in the afternoon after Anguyo had been stabilized.

Anguyo, along with his co-accused Peter Anziku, Dickson Okwonzi, and Hellen Anviko, then formally entered their pleas. The four individuals are collectively facing 11 charges, which were read to them through a Lugbara interpreter, the language they indicated was most convenient for them.

Anguyo specifically faces four counts of murder, two counts of aggravated robbery, and one count of threatening violence. He entered a plea of not guilty to all charges.

The prosecution alleges that between February and March 2026, the three co-accused aided Anguyo in evading arrest nationwide after the murders of Prison Officer Bright Akishuri, Prison Officer Hope Catherine, Sarah Ayebare, and Salson Nuwagaba. Anziku, Okwonzi, and Anviko pleaded not guilty to being accessories after the fact to a felony.

Following the not guilty pleas for all 11 counts, the trial officially commenced, with state prosecutors beginning to present their evidence, including the victims’ postmortem reports. The trial is ongoing.
