Lira Police Nab 42 Suspects in Gang Crackdown

In a significant move to restore order, police in Lira City have rounded up 42 suspects believed to be part of notorious criminal gangs. The intelligence-led operation, spanning Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, focused on areas within Lira City West Division, including Tealok Market and Starch Factory.

Residents had lodged numerous complaints detailing incidents of housebreaking, theft, phone snatching, robbery, and assaults on women, prompting the swift police action. During the operation, law enforcement officers seized an assortment of items, reportedly used in criminal activities. These included machetes, spearheads, suspected narcotic drugs, and tools believed to be for breaking and entering.

The apprehended individuals are currently detained at Lira City West Police Station, where they are undergoing screening as investigations into their alleged involvement in criminal activities intensify.

North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema, emphasized that this operation is a part of broader efforts to enhance security and ensure a crime-free environment for the citizens of Lira. He assured the public that similar operations will be extended to other parts of the city.

Mr. Okema urged the community to remain vigilant and to actively cooperate with security agencies by sharing crucial information that can aid in identifying and apprehending more criminals. He stressed the importance of this public-private partnership in effective crime prevention and management.

This crackdown signifies a determined effort by the police to tackle the rising crime rates and provide a sense of security to the residents of Lira City.
