A shocking discovery was made in Buyende District when a man, aged 40, was taken into custody by police on suspicion of murdering his wife. The victim’s body was found partially buried in a banana plantation located behind the couple’s home in Busisiro Zone, Namukunyu Parish, Bugaya Sub-county.

The alarm was raised on August 21 when residents, actively searching for the missing woman, noticed a pack of dogs gathered at a specific spot within the plantation. Their suspicions led them to investigate, and they uncovered the tragic scene. The body was later exhumed by police for a postmortem examination at Kamuli General Referral Hospital before being released to relatives for burial.

According to Busoga North police spokesperson Samson Lubega, the couple had a history of domestic disputes, and the deceased had reportedly asked the suspect to leave her home prior to the incident. Lubega stated that the suspect allegedly murdered his wife on August 18 as an act of revenge.

The suspect reportedly fled to a shrine in Luuka District but was apprehended by police following tips from the public who had seen his photograph on social media. Police commended the public’s cooperation in facilitating the arrest.

Adding another layer to the case, Buyende District LCV chairman Sharif Mangaraine revealed that both the suspect and the deceased were traditional healers operating unlicensed shrines. He urged the president of traditional healers to implement a licensing process to curb the presence of imposters. Mangaraine also advised couples facing conflict to seek counseling from probation officers, police, or NGOs to prevent domestic violence.

During initial questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to the murder, claiming his brother-in-law assisted him. Police investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances and identify any other potential accomplices.
