Socialite 'Don Chris' Arrested in Shs5 Billion Job Scam

Ugandan socialite Christian Asiimwe, widely recognized as ‘Don Chris,’ has been apprehended by law enforcement in connection with a large-scale job recruitment scam. Asiimwe, formerly a director at the now-closed Sky Pins labour agency, was reportedly arrested early Thursday morning at a bar in Zana, Wakiso District.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, SP Racheal Kawala, confirmed the arrest, explaining that Asiimwe is accused of running a fraudulent scheme that preyed on Ugandans seeking employment abroad. Victims allege that between 2022 and 2025, Asiimwe promised to secure them jobs in countries such as Canada, the UK, Qatar, and Dubai.

The advertised positions were primarily for roles like waiters, cleaners, and caregivers. According to statements gathered from complainants, Asiimwe allegedly charged between Shs5 million and Shs10 million per person, with the fees varying based on the destination country and the specific job. Police have so far documented statements from over 500 alleged victims as the investigation intensifies.

This arrest highlights a growing problem of fraudulent recruitment agencies targeting vulnerable Ugandans eager for overseas work. Asiimwe is currently in police custody, and authorities plan to present him in court once investigations are finalized.

Law enforcement is urging the public to exercise extreme caution when dealing with overseas employment agencies. Job seekers are advised to verify the credentials and licensing of any recruitment firm with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development before making any payments.
