US Televangelist Praises Uganda's Refugee Hospitality

American televangelist Dr. Mitchelle Corrall has commended Uganda for its unwavering commitment to welcoming refugees fleeing instability in neighboring countries. She described the nation’s policy as a profound embodiment of Christian principles, highlighting the importance of compassion and care for those in dire need.

Dr. Corrall’s remarks were made during a humanitarian outreach in Katanga, an informal settlement in Kampala. Her ministry distributed essential items, including food and clothing, to over 5,000 vulnerable residents. This initiative followed the East Africa Fire and Anointing Conference, where faith leaders discussed the practical application of religious teachings through charitable acts.

Uganda hosts approximately two million refugees, making it the largest refugee-hosting nation on the African continent, according to the UNHCR. Many of these individuals originate from South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. However, refugee settlements often face significant challenges due to climate shocks and strained resources.

Local leaders, such as Dr. Ernest Benjamin Kivumbi, president of Breath of Life Ministries, emphasized the timely nature of the intervention in Katanga, noting the settlement’s long-standing lack of access to basic services. He expressed hope that residents took advantage of the medical check-ups and food provisions offered.

Gratitude was also expressed by community leader Musa Kabega, who highlighted the relief provided to impoverished families and child-headed households. He noted that many children in the area are orphans or come from families struggling to meet basic needs, underscoring the significant impact of the outreach.
