Alur Kingdom Loses a 'Visionary Leader' in Tooro King Oyo

The Alur Kingdom has joined the nation in mourning the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of Tooro, acknowledging him as a visionary leader and a close ally. In a message conveyed by Alur Kingdom Prime Minister Prince Lawrence Opar Angala, King Phillip Olarker Rauni III shared his profound sadness at the news.

King Rauni noted that King Oyo’s premature demise represents a significant loss, especially given the young monarch’s potential and dedication to his kingdom and cultural heritage. The Alur Kingdom views Oyo not only as a distinguished sovereign but also as a personal friend, having fostered a strong bond between the two young royal leaders.

“We mourn the loss of a remarkable sovereign and pillar of strength for our culture and nation,” the statement from the Alur Kingdom read. King Rauni highlighted Oyo’s distinctive service, marked by wisdom and dedication, lamenting that his passing at a young age diminishes Uganda’s cultural landscape.

Historical and cultural ties between the Alur and Tooro royal houses have been a longstanding feature, and the Alur Kingdom emphasized the continuity of this relationship across generations. Prince Angala extended the heartfelt condolences of King Rauni and the entire Alur Kingdom to the Tooro Royal Family and the people of Tooro.

King Oyo, who ascended to the throne of Tooro in 1995 at the tender age of three, was recognized as the world’s youngest reigning monarch at the time. His passing on August 27, 2026, while receiving treatment in the United States, has sent ripples of grief through the country. The Alur Kingdom concluded its message with prayers for comfort and strength for the bereaved and wished for King Oyo’s soul to rest in eternal peace.
