Busoga Operations Yield 23 Arrests, Recover Suspected Stolen Motorcycles

Police in Busoga East have conducted successful intelligence-led operations, leading to the arrest of 23 suspects and the recovery of items suspected to be stolen. In Iganga District, two men were arrested after a tip-off from the local boda-boda association regarding a dealer selling motorcycles without proper documentation.

The arrested suspects, identified as Arafat Musenze, 32, and Joshua Kuzegera, 57, were found in possession of four motorcycles, along with dismantled parts and various documents. Among the recovered items were registration plates, engine components, shock absorbers, and logbooks. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects have been involved in dealing with second-hand motorcycles since 2014, claiming to have acquired them from brokers without proper paperwork.

One of the recovered motorcycles, with registration UDL 920P, was reportedly sold on installment and later claimed stolen by the seller due to a payment dispute. Both Musenze and Kuzegera are currently detained at Iganga Central Police Station, facing charges related to possessing suspected stolen property. Police are continuing their investigations and verifying the recovered documents, urging motorcycle owners who have lost their bikes to come forward.

In a separate operation in Namayingo District, 21 people were detained. This operation targeted suspected criminal activities, including bars operating beyond permitted hours and illegal gaming. The suspects, a mix of men and women, were arrested in various locations identified as black spots. Police are screening these individuals, with those found culpable expected to face court proceedings.

Busoga East Regional Police Spokesperson Michael Kasadha emphasized that operations will continue to address activities that threaten community safety and warned business owners against violating licensing conditions. He urged anyone who has lost a motorcycle to report to Iganga Central Police Station for verification.
