Lawyers Seek Greater Role in Case Over Next Media Crash Deaths

Legal representatives for the families of the late Isaac Ndamagye and Badru Kasirye are pushing for more involvement in the case stemming from their deaths. The crash occurred on August 7, 2026, along Entebbe Road in Namulanda, involving a vehicle carrying the Next Media employees and a Toyota Hilux allegedly driven by John Baptist Junior Kigozi, 45.

Kigozi faces two charges related to the incident, which resulted in the deaths of Ndamagye and Kasirye, and serious injuries to their colleague Brian Makona. Kigozi has pleaded not guilty to the charges and remains in custody.

During a recent court appearance, the case was adjourned to August 31, 2026, due to the unavailability of the magistrate and the government prosecutor. It was at this session that the lawyers, led by Sarah Atai, voiced their concerns.

They expressed dissatisfaction with the level of communication regarding the case’s progression and hinted at suspicious handling. The legal team requested the court to consider allowing the families greater participation, emphasizing that relatives of the deceased should be kept abreast of developments in a case directly impacting them. They also inquired about the possibility of the government withdrawing from the matter.

The upcoming court date is expected to address Kigozi’s bail application and other preliminary issues before the substantive hearing can proceed. This case will scrutinize the prosecution’s allegations against Kigozi and clarify the events surrounding the tragic deaths of Ndamagye and Kasirye.
