Leaders Commend Late King Oyo's Vision for Youth Empowerment

During a religious gathering at the Holy Orthodox Metropolis of Mityana, leaders lauded the late Tooro King Oyo for his exemplary service and commitment to youth empowerment. The commemoration, held during the Feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary, saw a convergence of religious figures and government officials reflecting on King Oyo’s significant contributions.

Minister of State for Kampala Affairs, Joseph Kyofatogabye, praised the late monarch as a forward-thinking leader who recognized the critical importance of economic empowerment for young people. He emphasized that King Oyo’s leadership style demonstrated a powerful balance between firm authority and the respectful empowerment of others, offering a valuable model for contemporary leaders.

Kyofatogabye urged the youth across Uganda, particularly in Tooro, to draw inspiration from King Oyo’s dedication to leadership and development. He called for increased investment in young people, advocating for the provision of skills, opportunities, and responsibilities to foster their active participation in national progress.

Archbishop Nektarios Leonard Lubega of the Genuine Orthodox Church of America, Mityana Metropolis, echoed these sentiments. He stated that true leadership is defined by its positive impact on communities rather than mere position. The Archbishop encouraged young individuals to learn from the examples of leaders who have shown deep commitment to their communities, using these lessons to shape their own aspirations and futures.

Both leaders agreed that King Oyo’s legacy extends beyond his reign, significantly contributing to the social and economic development of the Tooro Kingdom. They encouraged the younger generation to embrace hard work, responsibility, and community service as key elements in contributing to Uganda’s overall development. The event successfully blended religious observance with vital messages on leadership and civic duty for the youth.
