Museveni: Christian families must link faith with wealth creation

President Yoweri Museveni has called upon Christian families across Uganda to actively pursue wealth creation alongside their faith. He stated that spiritual prosperity is hindered when households are mired in extreme poverty, emphasizing the need to move beyond prayer to embrace productive economic activities.

During a message delivered by Minister Judith Nabakooba at the Church of Uganda Mothers’ Union National Exhibition, President Museveni highlighted that “true light means having food security, financial security, good health for everyone.” He commended the Mothers’ Union for its efforts in mobilizing women to combat poverty at the household level, noting that the economic empowerment of women has a significant positive impact on the entire family structure, leading to better nutrition, education for children, and reduced domestic conflicts.

The President outlined that the primary solution to poverty lies in the creation of wealth and jobs through engagement in commercial agriculture, industries, services, and information and communication technology (ICT). He pointed out that government investments in infrastructure, such as roads and electricity, provide a foundation for families to leverage these resources and improve their livelihoods.

President Museveni encouraged the Mothers’ Union members to act as catalysts for both spiritual renewal and socio-economic transformation within their communities. He urged them to anchor their families in biblical values while concurrently focusing on wealth creation, financial discipline, and hard work. Minister Nabakooba further encouraged the women to utilize government programs like the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) and the Parish Development Model (PDM) to enhance household incomes.

The Mothers’ Union, celebrating 119 years in Uganda, has made economic empowerment a core priority, equipping members with skills for income generation. The organization also aims to support vulnerable individuals and foster community development through initiatives like a boys’ hostel for mentorship.
