Uganda is in mourning following the death of His Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of Tooro Kingdom. The young monarch, who ascended to the throne at the age of three and was once the world’s youngest reigning king, passed away on Thursday evening, August 27, 2026, at the age of 34 after a period of illness.

The Prime Minister of Tooro Kingdom, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, confirmed the King’s passing and addressed the nation, emphasizing the profound loss to the Royal Family, the kingdom, and Uganda.

Condolence books have been opened at Buziga Palace in Kampala, where prayers are also being conducted for the late King. The Prime Minister has invited well-wishers, friends of Tooro, and the general public to visit and share their tributes and offer support to the Royal Family during this challenging time.

While public mourning and prayer services are taking place in Kampala, the core traditional funeral rites are being observed in the heartland of the kingdom at Karuzika Palace in Fort Portal. These ceremonies are being conducted under the guidance of elder Akiiki Musuga, ensuring strict adherence to Tooro’s customs and traditions.

The Prime Minister has appealed for calm, unity, and continued prayer from the people of Tooro. He also reassured the kingdom about the stability of the monarchy, stating that the succession is secured. According to Tooro traditions, an heir has been designated, and their identity will be formally announced at the appropriate time. Further details regarding the funeral program and official mourning arrangements are expected to be released shortly.
