Witness Claims Museveni Assassination Plot Followed Kisumu Training
A prosecution witness revealed in the High Court that approximately 50 individuals underwent covert intelligence and paramilitary training in Kisumu, Kenya, with the intention of assassinating President Museveni two weeks after its completion. President Yoweri Museveni was reportedly the target of an assassination plot, with the plan set in motion following a covert intelligence and paramilitary training session in Kisumu, Kenya. The High Court in Kampala heard testimony from Mr. Wilson Andrew, also known as Orolando, a prosecution witness.
According to Mr. Andrew, the training was designed to last for one week. Two weeks after the completion of this training, an alleged attack on the President was to be carried out. “The training camp would take one week, and thereafter, the attack on the President would take place apparently two weeks after the training,” the witness stated, as presented by Mr. Richard Birivumbuka from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
Mr. Andrew further testified that he was expected to accompany the trainees back to Uganda. Concurrently, Dr. Kizza Besigye and other members of an alleged “shadow government” were reportedly slated to travel to Dubai for meetings with senior figures from a group Mr. Andrew claimed to represent.
The witness also detailed his involvement in facilitating the travel of the trainees, stating he provided Dr. Besigye with $5,000. This sum was intended to cover the transportation of the approximately 50 individuals from Uganda to Kisumu and to support activities within Dr. Besigye’s political party.
The trainees were allegedly instructed to travel under the pretense of participating in a journalistic training program. However, their true purpose was to receive instruction in covert intelligence and paramilitary tactics, preparing them for the planned attack on the President.
In July 2024, a group of 36 members associated with the then-opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga faction, now known as the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), were arrested in Kisumu, Kenya. They were subsequently deported to Uganda and faced terrorism charges. These individuals had reportedly traveled to Kenya to attend leadership training, which was disrupted by their arrest by Kenyan authorities before they were handed over to Ugandan officials.
Later, the terrorism charges against this group were discontinued by the International Crimes Division due to a lack of prosecution.
This testimony was largely based on video recordings Mr. Wilson claimed to have secretly captured during meetings involving Dr. Besigye and Mr. Joel Wakayima in Geneva. The court has reportedly viewed clips from these recordings, which Mr. Wilson stated were made using a covert camera concealed within a power bank.
