Kampala Diocese Youth Convention: A Call to Resist Immorality and Embrace Holiness

Young Christians in the Diocese of Kampala are being challenged to uphold standards of holiness and resist the increasing normalization of sexual immorality in society. This strong message was delivered during the recent 2026 Youth Convention held at All Saints’ Cathedral, themed “Anchored in Holiness, Set Apart for Service.”
The Very Rev. Canon Rebecca Margaret Nyegenye, Dean of All Saints’ Cathedral, highlighted that sexual immorality often begins with lust and small compromises, escalating into more significant issues. She urged the youth to distinguish themselves from worldly trends that promote unhealthy sexual behaviors.
Nyegenye specifically questioned social events like proms, suggesting that the way young people are paired in these activities could inadvertently foster lust. Her concerns were echoed by the Assistant Bishop, the Ven. Rev. Canon Frederick Jackson Baalwa, who preached on the essence of holiness as being distinct from the world and living consistently according to God’s standards.
“Be holy when you are at school. Be holy when you are at home. Be holy when you are in a taxi. Be holy wherever you are,” Baalwa implored. He stressed that true holiness should be a transformative force, shaping character, guiding service, and ultimately enabling believers to positively impact society.
The convention, which brought together over 700 young people from various archdeaconries, aimed to strengthen their faith, clarify their identity, and underscore their purpose. Rev. Richard Musinguzi, the Diocesan Youth Coordinator, noted the importance of uniting young people and fostering a deeper understanding of their faith.
The program featured Bible studies and discussions on critical issues like teenage pregnancy, with organizers partnering with the Family Health Initiative to promote behavioral change and sexual purity among the attendees. The sessions were tailored for different age groups, accommodating both teenagers and young adults.
