Uganda’s perennial league champions, Kawempe Muslim, have advanced to the final of the Cecafa Zonal Qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League, following a resounding 3-0 win against Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE).
The victory, achieved at the Kigali Pelé Stadium in Rwanda, marks a significant milestone for the “Valley Warriors” as they reach the Cecafa final for the first time in their history.
Jovia Nakagolo opened the scoring in the 17th minute, setting the tone for the dominant performance. The lead was extended in the 55th minute through an own goal, and captain Agnes Nabukenya sealed the emphatic victory with a strike in the 72nd minute.
This triumph avenges Kawempe’s semifinal loss to the same CBE side in the 2024 edition of the tournament. The Ugandan club achieved a remarkable double over the Ethiopian champions, having also defeated them 1-0 in the group stage without conceding a goal.
Kawempe Muslim now becomes the second Ugandan club to reach the Cecafa zonal final, mirroring the achievement of She Corporate in 2022. They will compete for a place in the continental finals against the winner of the second semifinal between South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars and Kenya Police Bullets.
The final is scheduled to take place on Monday, with the victor earning the sole ticket to represent the Cecafa region at the CAF Women’s Champions League later this year.
