Kigezi Leaders Eulogize Late Businessman Christopher Mulenga as NRM Pillar and Unity Champion

The Kigezi region is in mourning following the death of respected businessman Christopher Mulenga, who passed away on Friday at a private health facility in Kabale town. Mulenga, estimated to be between 82 and 84 years old, had been battling diabetes for an extended period. He leaves behind a large family, including 12 children, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Leaders have widely remembered Mulenga for his significant contributions. Former Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda hailed him as a “great pillar of the Movement” and a “champion of unity” in Kabale and beyond. Rugunda highlighted Mulenga’s dedication to serving and uplifting others through his hard work, humility, and generosity, noting his unopposed election to the Kabale District Council as a testament to the community’s trust.

Dr. Philemon Mateke, NRM chairman for Kisoro District, recalled Mulenga as an exceptional leader who generously financed local NRM activities without seeking personal gain. Former Kabale District LCV chairman, Mr. Adison Kakuru, who served alongside Mulenga, described him as a wealthy individual who fostered friendships across all social strata. Kakuru further emphasized Mulenga’s role as the NRM party chief whip in the district council, where he strengthened party support. Mulenga’s generosity extended to paying school fees for needy children and covering medical expenses for those in distress.

State Minister for Trade and Kabale District NRM chairman, Mr. David Bahati, viewed Mulenga as a political mentor and a promoter of peace and unity. Bahati also acknowledged Mulenga’s long-standing service as the Kabale NRM party treasurer.

Mulenga’s son, Mr. John Ngarukiye, expressed gratitude to President Museveni and the NRM leadership for their support, particularly for facilitating his father’s medical airlift in 2018. Burial arrangements are currently underway, with Mulenga set to be laid to rest at his home in the Northern Division of Kabale Municipality.
