Kitagwenda RDC: Gift-Giving Can Foster Stronger Marriages, Curb Domestic Violence

Kitagwenda’s Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Isaiah Kanyamahane Byarugaba, is promoting a novel approach to strengthening family relationships: regular gift-giving between spouses. Speaking to residents in Bukurungu Town Council during Land Awareness Week, the RDC emphasized that simple gestures, particularly the gifting of clothes, can make husbands feel valued and appreciated.

Byarugaba believes that when a woman invests in her husband through thoughtful gifts, it fosters a deeper sense of appreciation and respect within the marriage. He posited that this mutual recognition can significantly reduce marital tensions and conflicts, thereby acting as a preventative measure against domestic violence.

“When a woman gifts her husband, especially clothes, whenever he is appreciated in the community, he will always remember where he got those clothes from. This makes him appreciate and respect his wife more,” the RDC explained.

He further stressed that the responsibility for appreciation should not fall solely on one partner. Byarugaba urged men to reciprocate these gestures, emphasizing that mutual acts of love and valuing one’s spouse are crucial for building a peaceful and stable family environment.

The RDC also took the opportunity to encourage residents to utilize Land Awareness Week to understand their land rights and responsibilities, advocating for peaceful resolution of land-related disputes. He concluded by linking strong families and peaceful communities to the broader goal of sustainable development.
