The director of Obia Memorial Nursery and Primary School in Kwania District, identified as a former Kwania District LC5 Chairperson, has been taken into custody by police. The arrest followed an accusation by a parent, Mr. Solomon Okok, who alleges he was assaulted by the school director on school grounds.

Mr. Okok reported to the police that he went to the school on Friday, August 28, 2026, to collect his two children who were attending holiday classes. He claims the school demanded Shs50,000 per child for these lessons, a fee he declined to pay. According to Mr. Okok’s statement, the director confronted him after the bursar refused to release the children and proceeded to assault him in front of his children.

North Kyoga Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway. He noted that while there are claims the parent was intoxicated, holding children at school for holiday studies is against the Ministry of Education’s guidelines. The school director was detained overnight at Kwania Central Police Station and released on police bond Saturday morning, August 29, 2026.

Upon his release, the school director presented a different account, suggesting Mr. Okok was drunk and causing a disturbance, leading to a single slap. Meanwhile, the acting Kwania District Education Officer, Mr. Andrew Omunu, warned school administrators against engaging in unauthorized holiday teaching, urging them to adhere to the official school calendar and encouraging parents to report such practices.
