Witness Details How Kiboga Shooting Suspect Obtained Gun
A state witness has testified in court, recounting the moments leading up to prison warder Moses Anguyo signing out a firearm shortly before allegedly killing four people. The special High Court in Kiboga heard testimony on how Moses Anguyo, a prison warder accused of a fatal shooting, acquired the firearm believed to be used in the incident. Cpl Joseph Emadit, the head of the Kiboga Central Prisons armoury, told the court that Anguyo signed for a gun, registration number UG POL 565824781, with 30 rounds of ammunition around 6:45 am on February 23, 2026.
Cpl Emadit stated that he arrived at his duty station at 5:30 am and assessed Anguyo’s condition before handing over the weapon. He also mentioned correcting some details in the armoury book, including the gun’s registration number, before Anguyo signed. The witness confirmed that Anguyo left the armoury office shortly after taking possession of the gun and magazine.
During cross-examination by defense lawyers, Cpl Emadit, who was the sole officer in charge of the armoury at the time, clarified that he had left his duty station at Kiboga Central Prison around 9:00 am for a separate deployment. He was therefore not present to witness the alleged killings.
The prosecution alleges that Anguyo unlawfully caused the deaths of Prison Officer Bright Akishuri, ASP Hope Catherine, Sarah Ayebare, and a one-year-old child, Alson Niwagaba. He also faces charges of aggravated robbery and threatening violence. Anguyo was later arrested in the Democratic Republic of Congo and extradited to Uganda to face trial.
The trial is set to resume with further witness cross-examination on August 31, 2026.
