Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu of the Church of Uganda recently made a pastoral visit to St. Peter’s Cathedral in Bukedi Diocese for a farewell service. During his address, he implored Christian leaders and followers in the region to prioritize unity, provide strong support for their leadership, and champion evangelism and initiatives focused on community betterment.

Citing his own experiences in church leadership, the Archbishop underscored the significance of humility, collaborative efforts, and backing those appointed to lead. “Division breeds confusion and weakens communities, while unity promotes progress, peace and success,” Kaziimba stated, emphasizing the detrimental effects of disunity.

He also voiced grave concerns regarding what he perceives as a decline in societal moral standards, urging Christians to seek spiritual renewal. Archbishop Kaziimba did not shy away from condemning acts like child abuse, killings, and food poisoning, warning that such transgressions could even originate from individuals within the church’s proximity. He challenged church leaders to invigorate evangelistic efforts, foster Christian unity, and lend their support to projects that uplift the faithful’s livelihoods.

The farewell service was attended by a distinguished gathering of civic, political, and religious figures. Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oboth Oboth, who was present, encouraged families in Tororo to focus on education and food security as fundamental pillars for strong communities. He also revealed plans to collaborate with the diocese on establishing coffee nursery beds across parishes to provide free seedlings to local farmers.

Bishop Samuel George Bogere Egesa of Bukedi Diocese expressed gratitude for Archbishop Kaziimba’s leadership and affirmed the diocese’s commitment to community development. Bishop Egesa also used the occasion to reiterate the diocese’s request for the creation of two new dioceses from the existing Bukedi Diocese, a proposal that has been approved by the synod and is awaiting the Archbishop’s endorsement.
