EACOP Enhances Sanitation at Sembabule's Kabagarame Market

EACOP Ltd. has recently commissioned a significant upgrade to sanitation infrastructure at Kabagarame Market in Sembabule District. This initiative includes the construction of new and refurbishment of existing facilities, directly addressing the need for improved public health, sanitation, and safety.

The newly established facilities feature a 10-stance drainable pit latrine block, designed for both male and female users. The design prioritizes user comfort and dignity, incorporating adequate ventilation, lighting, and privacy. Additionally, the site is equipped with a rainwater harvesting tank and enhanced landscaping.

These facilities are strategically located near EACOP’s Main Camp and Pipe Yard 3 (MCPY 3) and are expected to benefit over 500 individuals from approximately 16 surrounding villages. This project is a key component of EACOP’s Community Health and Safety initiatives and directly supports Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), which champions access to clean water and sanitation for all.

EACOP’s community investment strategy operates under five pillars: Future Generations, Environment, Community Health and Safety, Water Solutions, and Sustainable Energy. In Sembabule, the company has also previously provided 14 water-harvesting facilities to communities in Buzirandulu, Kiteredde, and Njaza, underscoring a commitment to improving water access and resilience.

John Bosco Habumugisha, EACOP’s Deputy Managing Director, emphasized the critical role of sanitation in community well-being, stating that improved access empowers residents towards healthier and more productive lives. Brian Rwamalinga, Assistant Resident District Commissioner of Sembabule District, commended EACOP’s contribution to addressing local water and sanitation deficits, highlighting the dignity that proper facilities provide.

This development at Kabagarame Market is part of EACOP’s broader commitment to community-centered development, focusing on improving livelihoods, health, safety, and essential infrastructure in alignment with identified community needs.
