Tooro Kingdom has officially laid out a comprehensive set of cultural protocols to guide the funeral rites and the subsequent succession of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
These directives, resolved at a Kingdom meeting on August 28, 2026, place the head of the Babiito royal clan, Omujwera Musuuga Charles Kamurasi, at the forefront of all cultural arrangements. Kamurasi will oversee funeral meetings, burial preparations, and the transition to the next monarch, with all Kingdom organs operating under his authority.
Following Tooro custom, King Oyo’s body will be transported directly from Entebbe International Airport to Karuziika Palace in Kabarole, where it will remain throughout the mourning period. Karuziika Palace is designated as the sole official seat of the King.
An official nine-day mourning period will commence upon the body’s arrival at Karuziika Palace, allowing subjects, clan members, leaders, and officials to pay their respects.
A 21-member committee of Babiito elders, also led by Kamurasi, has been formed to identify and formally announce the next Omukama. This committee is responsible for the cultural transition, ensuring unity and inclusivity.
To manage public information, a dedicated communications committee, including Fr. Dr. Charles Oyo, Moses Musinguzi, and Isaac Rwabwoni, has been established. The public and media are urged to rely solely on official releases from this committee.
Minister Tom Butime will serve as the liaison between the Kingdom and the Government of Uganda. Financial contributions for the funeral are to be channeled through a specific Tooro Kingdom Palace account at Stanbic Bank, Fort Portal Branch, for transparency and accountability.
