Makerere University to Offer Supplementary Exams for Final-Year Students in September

Makerere University is providing a crucial opportunity for final-year students to complete their studies and qualify for the upcoming January 2027 graduation. The university has sanctioned supplementary examinations to be held between September 7 and September 11, 2026.

This decision was made following a resolution by the University Council, which tasked the University Senate with developing a formal Supplementary Examinations Policy. The current offering is an interim measure, pending the policy’s ratification.

The exceptional examination opportunity is strictly for final-year students who have failed no more than two course units. Specific mark ranges apply: undergraduate students must have scored between 30% and 49% in the failed units, while postgraduate students need to have scored between 40% and 59%.

Results from these supplementary exams are expected to be processed quickly to ensure that successful candidates can be considered for the 77th Graduation Ceremony. Students who are eligible and wish to take advantage of this chance are advised to contact their respective College Principals, Deans, or Heads of Department for further guidance and application procedures.

The Makerere University Students’ Guild has welcomed the initiative, with Guild President H.E. Kadondi Gracious commending the university management for facilitating this arrangement. The Guild emphasized its commitment to supporting students’ academic progress.

This move is part of Makerere’s ongoing efforts to streamline academic processes and prevent unnecessary delays for students who have met most of their academic requirements. The supplementary exams offer a second chance for students to pass specific course units and avoid deferring their graduation.
