Minister Babalanda Initiates Monthly Clean-Up for Seventh-day Adventists

Minister for the Presidency, Milly Babalanda, has officially inaugurated a community clean-up program specifically for members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The initiative, which kicked off in Iganga District, aligns with a government directive for the faith community to conduct clean-up activities on the last Sunday of each month, mirroring similar efforts by other religious groups.

The launch event took place at the Iganga District headquarters, followed by participants cleaning up various areas within Iganga town, including collecting garbage, clearing roads, and tidying the local market.

Minister Babalanda announced that the next clean-up exercise is scheduled for Jinja City, with Adventists nationwide encouraged to participate in cleaning their local communities. She urged the Adventist faithful to actively engage in the program, emphasizing its role in enhancing community cleanliness and promoting healthy environments to prevent disease.

Beyond environmental cleanliness, Babalanda also called upon the Adventist community to be at the forefront of the fight against corruption, highlighting how the vice undermines public programs and service delivery. She encouraged citizens to report corrupt practices, stressing that a healthy population is crucial for national development.

The Bishop of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Busoga Field, Dr. Pastor Jimmy Kajura, expressed gratitude for the government’s recognition of different faiths. He noted that the agreed-upon timing for the clean-up exercises demonstrates respect for the Adventist faith and its contributions, including ongoing efforts to improve public welfare through initiatives like hospital construction.

Iganga was chosen as the launch site due to its significance as the regional headquarters for the Adventist Church in Busoga. Pastor Kajura affirmed the church’s commitment to continued collaboration with the government for the betterment of Ugandans.
