Mityana Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Garbage Dumping

Authorities in Mityana District are issuing a stern warning to residents regarding the improper disposal of waste. Residents have been cautioned against dumping garbage along roadsides and in any unauthorized locations within the district. Those found contravening these directives will face arrest and potential prosecution.

This warning comes as Mityana prepares for its monthly community cleaning exercise, typically held on the last Saturday of each month. District leaders have expressed concern that some individuals continue to discard rubbish along roadways, hindering the collective efforts to maintain a clean environment.

Joseph Luzige, the Mityana District Chairperson, emphasized the importance of residents taking ownership of their community’s cleanliness. He urged everyone to utilize the designated monthly clean-up days for proper waste management and to maintain tidy surroundings. “We want residents to take responsibility for the cleanliness of their communities. Dumping garbage on roadsides undermines the cleaning efforts, and those found doing so will be held accountable,” Luzige stated.

In parallel, Judith Nabakooba, the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development and also the Mityana District Woman Member of Parliament, has addressed companies contracted for cleaning services in Mityana town. Nabakooba warned that these contractors must adhere strictly to their contractual obligations. Failure to fulfill the agreed-upon cleaning duties could result in the cancellation of their contracts.

Nabakooba stressed the need for both residents and contracted companies to fulfill their respective roles. She highlighted that maintaining a clean town is a shared responsibility, requiring active participation from the community and diligent service from the hired companies.
