Producer Washington Recounts Bobi Wine & Nubian Li Collaboration Challenges

Veteran music producer David Washington has reminisced about the early days of his career, particularly his work with prominent artist-turned-politician Bobi Wine. Washington described some of these collaborations as challenging yet ultimately rewarding experiences that contributed to the artists’ burgeoning careers.

He recalled one instance where Bobi Wine approached him with a song idea called ‘Wendi.’ Washington admitted that he initially struggled to grasp Bobi Wine’s vision for the track but, through collaboration, they managed to complete it successfully.

A particularly memorable project for Washington was the song ‘Adam Ne Kawa,’ featuring both Bobi Wine and Nubian Li. He recounted how the trio developed the song spontaneously during a car ride to the studio. “By the time we reached the studio, it only took me five minutes. We completed the song in 30 minutes,” Washington stated, emphasizing the swift and dynamic nature of their creative process.

One significant challenge Washington faced was harmonizing the distinct vocal styles of Bobi Wine and Nubian Li. Inspired by the successful Jamaican duo Chaka Demus & Pliers, he aimed to create a similar chemistry between the Ugandan artists. “It was a bit tough, but Tonny Holes helped me out greatly with this project because he understood me very well,” Washington noted, acknowledging the assistance he received in blending their sounds.

These recollections offer a glimpse into the creative experimentation and collaborative spirit that defined some of Bobi Wine and Nubian Li’s foundational musical projects.
