Uganda Government Prepares for King Oyo's State Funeral

Preparations are underway by the Ugandan government to bring the remains of the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV back to his ancestral home in Tooro Kingdom. The government has confirmed that the former monarch’s body is expected to arrive in Uganda on Thursday.

Presidential Secretary Hajj Yunus Kakande announced that government officials have been in active discussions with relevant stakeholders to ensure a smooth repatriation process. President Yoweri Museveni is scheduled to personally receive the body upon its arrival at Entebbe International Airport.

Following the reception at Entebbe, the body will be transported to Kyegegwa. From there, it will be placed on a hearse, allowing the public an opportunity to pay their final respects and mourn the young king.

The procession will then continue to Tooro Kingdom, where the Ababiito, the royal family, will lead traditional mourning rituals. These rites are expected to last for nine days, adhering to the customs of the kingdom.

In accordance with President Museveni’s directive, King Oyo will be accorded a full state funeral, complete with a gun salute, recognizing his status as a royal leader. Kakande conveyed the government’s condolences to the people of Tooro and all Ugandans, emphasizing the significant loss felt by the nation.

He further lauded King Oyo for his humility, commitment to peace, and the exemplary leadership he provided, stating that the late monarch served as an inspiration to many.
